A great friend of mine who worked at Pace Gallery packed in her job and headed off in her Fiat 100 to the rolling hills of Tuscany to work on an artist in residence initiative at the uber cool Villa Lena Agristurismo hotel (

It was set up by her friend Lena (hence the name) who also worked at Pace….. so now you understand the whole ‘art’ vibe concept they have going on.

I was on my way to the in-laws who live in Rome so where better do do a detour than to stop off for a few days at this dreamy Tuscan estate.

Indeed this is no ordinary hotel, set in 500 hectares with rooms and apartments spread over the whole estate its your choice whether you stay in the more expensive but very chic apartments next to the Villa designed by the French interior designer Clarisse Demory. Think high ceilings, rustic textures, lots of neutrals, a pop of art, wild flowers, and white cloud sheets to snuggle up in.

Up to a mile down the road (hiring a car is advisable) you can have your own little slice of Tuscan charm, beautifully restored outbuildings form basic yet clean apartments.

Apartments are from 90- 250 Euros per night

Artsy & spacious with gorgeous views, a hippy community/family feel and you know this place could host a great party!

Ask our favourite Barman Morgan to rustle up one of his specials by the pool and tell you about his truffle hunting adventures.

Pool area has great views… plus they’ve just built a yoga platform over looking the Tuscan country side should you wish to push out a few downward dogs.
