We’ve been packing our bags again; this time we travelled to the beautiful Aeolian Islands, just off the north coast of Sicily. We stayed in the Hotel Signum in Salina; a stunning boutique hotel, bedecked in a chic Italian style. The perfect place to get away from it all, rooms over look either the sea or the garden, providing a rare oasis in today’s hectic world.
The trip was exactly what we needed to restore us after the hard work we’ve been putting in. Although, with the amount of pasta we ate, we needed two Eddie Harrop bags to bring back our extra large wardrobe!
Top Tips for Your Visit
– Order a bottle of Salina Bianco over a long lunch – a dry white, a perfect compliment to most sea dishes.
– There are no cars really on the islands; to travel around in style hire a Vespa. These traditional scooters, named after the Italian word for ‘wasp’, are more fun to drive than they should be.
– Watch ‘Il Postino’, the critically acclaimed movie from 1994. Shot partially on Salina, the film successfully explores politics and relationships. Watch now to get in the mood for the beautiful settings you’ll soon be experiencing.
After we’d fully rested, it was back home to Taormina on mainland Sicily – and straight out again to Morgana bar!
