Arguably the best restaurant in Asia, The Deck is nestled along the Saigon River 15 minutes from the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It’s the brain child of Anna Craven Smith Milnes and Lawson Johnson who have created unquestionably the city’s most stylish settings for breakfast lunch or dinner.

You can imagine my excitement when the invitation arrived to celebrate Anna’s Great Gatsby party. Location – The Deck.  It wasn’t one to be missed so flights were booked from the UK with the added bonus of another party at Mango Bay on Phu Quoc island.

Not only was it such a joy to catch up with great friends and shimmy in between the glamorous outfits & panamas hats, I knew it was worth flying the 6,000 miles when I was handed the Deck’s signature lemongrass martini cocktail.

The food at the Deck totally deserves its culinary crown. A delicious fusion of east meets west – and Anna’s birthday bonanza was certainly not going to disappoint. Presentation was Michelin worthy and the locally sourced Phu Quoc chili squid had me weak at the knees . We were also treated to an extensive wine list, a selection of the finest new & old World wines which slipped down very well.

They say that the Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence and idealism– well with the sun setting, water hyacinth floating by, another cocktail in hand it certainly feels like I’m exploring such themes at the Deck!
