SRI LANKA & THE MALDIVES

We caught up with Helen Mulhern, marketing extraordinaire from  ‘Original Travel’

What’s been your holiday read this summer?

Just Kids by Patti Smith…..

I was totally hooked by Patti Smith’s memoir and loved it so much I read it in about 24 hours. Her words are my inspiration for the summer!

Where are you next heading off to?

Sri Lanka and the Maldives….

First stop, the Cultural Triangle at Vil Uyana, a luxury eco resort right next to Sigiriya rock fortress and I am also hoping to catch sight of a few elephants at Minneriya National Park; August is prime time for watching them gather around the lakes.

I will then be heading off into the Tea Hills to relax and scoff cucumber sandwiches and afternoon tea at the restored colonial bungalow, Lavender House.

For the final few days, I will be hopping on a tiny sea plane to the island of Niyama in the Maldives for some beach action. Niyama has an underwater club amongst the coral and an off shore restaurant only reached by speed boat… I couldn’t be more excited!!

As someone who works at the forefront of travel, can you recommend a fab hotel anywhere in the world?

Aman Hotels are the perfect combination of luxury and authenticity. The design of each hotel blends seamlessly with its surroundings so you don’t get that over the top and corporate feel that some luxury hotels are guilty of. I have a soft spot for the USA at the moment and would love to stay at Amangiri in Utah.
